Introducing Moore Maple, our second exclusive barrel pick from Hard Truth, released alongside The Queen’s Truth. For the first time ever, RoCo Wine and Spirits and River City Whiskey Society are launching two distinct Single Barrel Picks from the same distillery at the same time! This collaboration was only possible thanks to the incredible hospitality and connection we built with Hard Truth’s team, including their owner Bryan, and master distiller Chris Moore.
This barrel, named Moore Maple in honor of Chris Moore himself, has a unique story that highlights our bond with Hard Truth and their openness to share their craft. Lynn (“the_whiskey_gal”) had been hyping us up for months about the amazing treatment we would receive, and she was spot on. After we picked The Queen’s Truth, we felt so welcomed by the Hard Truth team that we asked Chris, “Hey, let’s taste some of your experimental and honey barrels!” Chris liked our group so much that he took us on a walk through the rickhouse, letting us taste three secret project barrels he had stashed away.
That’s when we discovered the one—the barrel that hit us with rich maple notes. We couldn’t resist asking, “Would you let us pick one more?” Chris, being one of the coolest people in whiskey, said yes. And so, Moore Maple was born, named in honor of Chris for his generosity and for being such a legend. We went on to taste nine more experimental barrels, making this trip one of the most memorable experiences we’ve had in whiskey.

- Proof: 127.9
- Age: 4 years
- Mash Bill: 94% Rye / 6% Malted Barley
- Barrel Type: Spiral Cut Char #4
Barrel Facts:
- Spiral Cut C#4 barrels are made from White Oak staves air-dried for 12-16 months. After being charred to level #4, a spiral cut is made into the wood, exposing more tannins and green wood.
- This method creates darker whiskey with a bolder character, due to increased surface contact and tannin extraction during maturation.
Flavor Profile:
- The extended extraction process leads to rich notes of dark sweet cherry, root beer or cream soda, along with bold baking spices, brown sugar, and hints of light custard and vanilla.
